Sunbonnet Sue Quilt

This beautiful quilt was embroidered by my late mother ( Ena " Roberts" Goobie) when she was very young. It was to be used as a bedspread and it lived for many years, probably in her trunk. It was passed along to me years later and I put it in my old trunk. Such a shame to have something so lovely hidden away.
When my husband and I opened our home as a Bed and Breakfast in the early 2000's, I asked my sister-in-law (" who is a master quilter" she would very quickly disagree with me ) to turn it into a quilt for our Lavender Room.

 As you can see she did a wonderful job and if you look closely you can see that she quilted an arbour around the lady and  birds and butterflies and flowers surrounding the arbour. The edge of the quilt is done in a lattice pattern to match the garden theme.  

 How lovely is this, the handiwork of two talented ladies, two generations apart, combined to create a thing of beauty, that will last for years to come? How blessed am I to be the keeper of such a treasure?

My Kitchen Cupboard

This is my cupboard full of memories. Each dish has a. story waiting to be told .

I'm going to start with "BESS", thats the dear little mother hen, that my husband Cliff cut for me and I painted, I just love her. She sits on top of our hydro meter, on our front veranda in the good weather, so far the meter reader guy hasn't complained  and she spends the rest of the year here in my kitchen. Cliff's keyboard sits just to the left of the cupboard and all day long he serenades her with " Oldie Goldies". "Old MacDonald had a farm" is her favourite.

 Look what I found while rummaging around in one of my old trunks. About five years ago, I found this old printed  panel at a church garage sale, in Manitawanning, on Manitoulin Island, Ontario.Our favourite place to visit. The panel has two little girls aprons printed on it, this one of Mother Duck and her babies and another one with a dear little Dutch girl enjoying the tulips. I am in the process of stitching around all the printed areas, using my gramma's thread and my mom's dear little silver thimble and scissors. After I make the little aprons I may use them as curtains untilI get some little great-grandaughters to give them to. Such fun!



Well I did it and I am very pleased with myself because I haven't embroidered anything in years.Now I have to see what my next little project will be.
